Hey Robbie,

It's been awhile since I've seen you play. Good to see that the band is out there again. I ran into Gary C. in Guitar Center one day, and he was surprised that someone recognized him. Glad you guys are still on good terms.

Welcome to the forum. I'm a new guy around here too.

thanks to everyone for the warm welcoming!

hey rob, whats new with the retronauts? we never did get together for shows or jams yet. but yes, gary and i are still on good terms. unfortunately, we had to part ways because gary decided to pursue more of a promotional aspect that probably won't cover our expenses. he's in a better financial position that allows him to do it now. i still depend on my music as a source of income so it just wasn't practical for me. it was time, gary needed to be the captain of his own vessel. i like doing all kinds of instrumental music from booker t & the mg's to jeff beck. and of course the ventures! we're still doing a lot of surf instro's like pipeline, diamond head, baja and others. it's all really pretty silly because so much surf and instro rock really cross over. even some music by shredders like gary hoey could be classified as surf. but i think gary wanted to do something more traditional, like what most surf bands do. really, like i said, gary just needed to captain his own ship. he's a great guy and a talented drummer. i won't be suprised if we end up working together on occasion, we did leave the door open.
i've got marty holland from the jerry garcia band on bass; and skip murphy on drums. skip used to play with a lot of jazz and blues cats like jimmy smith and buddy guy. they're both really great guys. after doing 200 shows in the past few years i've decided to take things a little easier this year but we're still booking a handful of shows.

The Retronauts are still plugging along. We didn't gig much last year, party due to personnel changes, and partly by choice. Two of the guys still have day jobs and families that take up the majority of their time (as it should be), We are mostly an outdoor festival, car shows, daytime events kind of band so we tend to be pretty inactive during the winter months. Hopefully we'll be out there again as warmer weather approaches.

I ended up here at the Mosrite forum because I am a recent owner of a Hallmark Custom 60 (the one in my avatar). It is a great guitar and I'm really enjoying playing it!
