Well, Chris; having been there more than a couple of times, if you have your heart set on a particular guitar, especially after having played one, nothing else will do the trick!

If you have $1K saved already, you should be on a good start toward a Combo's price. Can anyone say what these are going for nowadays?

I can guarantee you that once you find it, we will all want to see a complete report, with photos and sound files if possible!!!

Good luck--

I like your intro, Chris -keep your focus on your goal.
I wished for a USA reissue '62 Fender Precision Bass and after searching for more than a year, scored one on ebay for just over one grand and in as-good-as-new condition! It was well worth the wait and the reward for my patience was sweet ;)

That was just for temporary use while I'm having a new neck made.

Apologies to all newcomers of the last few months. I've been terrible at the welcome lately, but welcome! Patience is a great thing. My lack of patience is what sorta led to me owning too many guitars. Not that it's a bad thing, oops! Plus one on the Maphis vote although it's not gonna save you any money. I was holding out for a Combo with the full trem piece but got the Maphis first so I don't think I'll be getting a Combo anytime soon. Plus, I kinda like the natural finish better anyway and most Combos are sunburst.

Chris, I sent you a PM with some links to a possible Combo. Good luck!

Thing is, I actually desire the feedback....I play a lot of noise/drone/ambient stuff and want a hollow body specifically to make some sounds a guitar isn't supposed to

Wow, Fritz, that Maphis is GORGEOUS.

Anyway, right now I have about $500 saved up (thank you Mr. Tax Refund) but I have some projects coming up with my business that should be decent pay days, so I expect to have $1000+ available soon...but on principle, I don't think I can spend more than $1500 on a guitar anytime in the next 5 years, as I still need to climb out from underneath school loans.

Thanks for all the input/suggestions guys
