Re: Howdy
Hey Sarah
Good to hear fom you. My CelebrityII has a serial # M0249. Has the vibrato, cherry red with flamed wood grain showing through. It plays and sounds like it just came off the showroom floor.
I want a Gospel as well. Tim McKeethan of the Gospel Keys, a quartet consisting of Will and Shirley Cohran, and Tims wife, had an original one similar to the one on a cover of The Happy Goodman family. Awesome guitars. Never lose the dream!!
I wish you could have gone through the Mosrite facory here in Bakersfield. Once, when my buddies and I brought our guitars down for adjustment, Gene Moles was working on them. My buddy asked him what he thought of the Telecaster, and Gene never even looked up from what he was doing. He just said, "they are ok for farm equipment."
We all rolled with laughter. He just said it so matter of factly. Many years later when Gene had his little shop over on Niles Ave in East Bakersfield just before he retired, I mentioned that to him. He just kind of grinned. Good man, Gene. I thought a lot of him.
But that factory was something! I remember when it went out of business and was auctioned off in portions. You could buy a barrel of necks for $20.00. I went over to a guy who had a little shop in Taft and bought a neck, Ventures body, and all the hardware for $50.00
You could walk through the pawn shops on 19th street and buy Mosrites all day long for $100. I bought my Celebrity 12 string for $200.00, and a red Ventures bass for $200. I also bought a white dobule neck for $300.00 Sold every one of them at a later time. Big regrets.
Gene built my first double neck. It was a deep blue, 12 over 6. I'm sure it's the one hanging in Artie Niesons Front Porch music right now. Trouble is, he WILL NOT sell any of them. He's a good head too. I've talked to him a lot about his Mosrites. Has a wall full of them.
Sorry to ramble. I just love talking about Mosrites. And my Celebrity.
In the process of putting pics up on website. Hope to have them all by today.
Great site you have!!! Thanks for all the effort and information you have there.
Keep up the good work
Sir George

Thank you Sir George. As you might guess I am passionate about the Celebrity. I wish I could have seen the Mosrite factory. What a cool experience you had. And, what great memories you have. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your Celebrity!
