Nice Combo! On the subject of the random screw hole, This is a wild idea but your combo may have had a different vibrato at first like one from a Ventures/Mark I guitar that had a baseplate. I'm no expert though so don't take my word for it, I don't know if the baseplate vibratos had a screw in that general area or if it would be possible to easily put a non baseplate version on a baseplate Combo.
