Re: New Member on the forum - just bought my first Mosrite

UPS called today saying they had a delivery and someone needed to be home. Must be my New Guitar!! since it was being shipped with extra insurance. Can't wait to get my hands on it. :D I will be ordering some Kluson tuners for the guitar shortly. Got my fingers crossed that the old Fenders hardcase he described in the auction is actually a mosrite case. We'll see tomorrow. The seller said the guitar was Blue before he had it refinished.
Here is what he said in the email:

" I got it used and it was blue then. As far as I know that was the original color. When I had it repainted there were some chips that showed white underneath, but I just assumed that was "primer". I never thought to ask the guy who painted it if it looked like it may have ever been another color or not."

I figure, if it was originally white, it would have had a Tortoise pickguard. Is that the usual color Pickguard for a white Mosrite? Any thoughts?? Did they use a whitish primer?

Hi Dave,
Congrats on the guitar. Hope you enjoy it. I don't think you got ripped. Your cost is about half of what a pristine sunburst Mark V went for a few months ago.

And here are some pics of white primer.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Dave, You got your Ventures II German Carve model for a good price. Ventures II GC/Mark V Models generally go in the $1,700-$2000 range if they're all original (That sunburst one in December was a crazy exception, There were several people bidding it up very high) And I've seen refinished ones go from $900 to $1,500, Depending on the quality of the refin. (The $900 one was a bad refin) I'll pardon your absence from the forum once you get your Mosrite, heh heh.

Got My Mosrite today!! Tune it back up after emptying the hardcase of styrofoam popcorn!
Hey Dennis, you were right about the case. It appears to be the original hardcase. I compared it to the pictures I found on the net of a Mark V case. Its pretty beat, but quite functional. Played it for a while after I got it out of the packing box. The top three frets are a little worn. May have to get them dressed or replaced. Are speed frets easily dressed? Or for that matter easily replaced? Love the Guitar. I plan on replacing the aftermarket tuners with original Klusons. Did all the Mk II and Mk V's come with Klusons with plastic buttons, or did a few come with the metal buttons like the Mk I's?
Well back to banging on the guitar.... :)

Welcome to the forum welcome to Arizona and good game on your Mosrite Victory...
I've lived in the Phoenix area for 4 years now but I'm packing up the family and moving back home to San Diego.

You know it's a good day in Phoenix when the temp is under 105.
For every Bigwave I'll think of you in the Heatwave...

Again welcome Bigwave and enjoy.

Great to hear, How does it sound? And on the subject of Mosrite frets being dressed, It is definitely possible but there isn't much fretwire to dress away. You could get it refretted properly if it weren't for the fact that the fretwire Mosrite used isn't made anymore, The closest thing to Mosrite fretwire is supposed to be Mandolin fretwire. So, The best thing for you to do is just adjust the truss rod for a little relief until the frets get to be too much of a nuisance or have a neck custom made by Tym Guitars for your VIIGC. The latter requires you sending Tym the neck for your guitar but they'll make a fantastic replica for you.

Here's a link to Tym's site..
