Welcome to the forum Doug! What a wonderful story! Wow, you got to work off some of the money in Semie's shop! That is so awesome. What an experience! I can't wait for more stories.

Hey there Doug,
Welcome to the Mosrite Fourm!
How long did you have to work for ol'
Uncle Semie to pay off your custom double neck?
The Panama lane shop wasn't very far from
where I lived my hole young life, Fairfax Road.

Great story and beautiful guitar. Well worth $850.00, no doubt.

Welcome Doug. Glad Danny got you to sign up here. It was great Danny was able to post some pics of your historic double neck Mosrite. Like Mr. Elliott, I'm curious as to how Semie worked out a trade to pay for the balance on the guitar. Makes a good lesson for a youngster to learn the value of the labor that goes into making an instrument (or any product, for that matter), and an appreciation for what it is. I'm sure you will have interesting comments around here in the future.
On the technical side, I have a few questions. Perhaps you could answer them in Danny's thread. Is your double neck made of hollowed maple, alder, or basswood? Also, what does the script writing on the octave neck read? I can't quite read it. Thanks in advance.

The barter system was quite common back in the day. Both parties got what they needed or wanted. You won't see anything like that now days.

Re: New member, Chippie - doubleneck Mosrite
To reply as how long it took me to work off the other $850.00, Well Semie started my Guitar immediately, but he didn't finish it for approximately 14 or 15 months. If you knew Semie, this was common. After high school I would high-tail it to his shop. I lived on Kentucky St W/of Oswell. I drove to the end of Oswell into the farm land to Panama Ln. I Parked my car and jumped the fence. One day the farmer made me stop driving down that dirt road, so from then on, I had to drive around to Cottonwood Rd.
I worked everyday I could within that time period. ( hated that sanding) I worked after that but I had graduated out of high school and had to make some real money. Semie came to my church several times and played my guitar. He also played on our softball team. He was a better guitar maker than a softball player. We just had fun. More later.

Mr. Elliott,
It took me over a year and half to work off the balance. I hoped I fulfilled my obligation to Semie. He seemed satisfield. I have a good friend I've known all my life that worked with you at the "P" st. factory. His name is, John Rutlege. Do you recall him.
