Weird string height problem on my Deke

Postby TriflerShawn » Thu Jul 25, 2013 7:15 am

Greetings all............I've noticed a weird little "issue" on my Deke.
It appears that either the A string is sitting a bit low, or the E is riding high.
Look at the pics below........ It really doesn't bug me that much, but it has tripped me up
a few times when I'm transitioning from the E to the A. Any ideas?? Maybe that's the wrong saddle?
String guage might be to big for saddles and the E is riding a bit high?

Like on the rest of our Hallmarks, I designed the bridge saddles themselves to be uniform to the radius of the fingerboard unlike Mosrite which has rollers that are different heights.

So, the two E strings should be the lowest pair, then the A and B should be the second lowest pair, then the D+G should be the highest pair.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Bob, that's how it is on my 60C and Hallmark II. There is a gradual rise from the lower E to D.
On my Deke, the A is slightly LOWER that the E, so it cause a bit of a problems when transitioning from string to string.
It's not a huge problem, but it's a bit weird.

So just try swapping the position of those two saddles and see if that does the trick.

Yes the previous owner could have played with the bridge. Let me know how it works out.

Oh, one more thing, when tightening the locking pins on the bottom of the saddle, turn them until they are just snug. Do not attempt to tighten it down hard or the threads in the saddle will strip. I do have a fix for that too if it were to happen but try to be careful.

Let me know if you need any further assistance,

Best, Bob

Bob,
Quick question.
Hope it's not too stupid or wasting your time.
The last few times I've played my low E pops outta the saddle.
Should I raise the action?
File down saddle?
Buy new bridge off ya?
Strings are pretty new, maybe bum set? D'addario 11's.
......or even better should I just buy 3 more Hallmarks as back up?

While I really like the last option the best, try raising the action a hair and use the heavy spring included with your guitar. You must really hit the strings!

Haha! heck yeah I do! At least that's what I am told. I think when I go to palm mute I punch the bridge and/or saddles. It usually happens when I am playing live and/or heavy drinking is involved!
THANKS AGAIN BOB!
