Lower output from hallmark bridge pickup compared to neck...

Postby WagonTrain » Fri Mar 02, 2012 12:08 am

I recently picked up a c60 and I'm noticing something strange about my pickups.
I have adjusted the bridge pickup close to the strings and backed off the neck pickup, but the neck position is still noticeably louder. Is this normal? Do any other hallmark owners notice this?

For comparisons sake, I put my amp on standby and plugged in my les Paul jr with a fralin p90 (about 9k) and that too is louder than my hallmark bridge pickup.

Is it possible my pickups were put in the wrong position by accident? I notice my les Paul junior has a lot more drive and compression going on...can that just be cause the pickup is wound different regardless of the lower wind?.......I actually like having a cleaner sound with the hallmark....but there's a big volume boost switching to the neck position.

One other question....for some reason my pole pieces on the neck pickup are narrower than the holes in the cover so I can't raise them out of the pickup cover. Does anyone know how to get these covers off and reattach them so I can file the holes a little bigger? It kinda bothers me that it came like this but if it can be fixed with some quick filing I'm sure it will only take a few minutes.

If you perhaps are not the first owner, there's always the possibility that it may have had mods done to it in the past. If everything is stock and unaltered, I'm sure Bob Shade will chime in. My H60C (from 2009) shows none of the things you describe on yours :?

Hello and thanks for writing in about your Hallmark. Without having the guitar on the bench next to impossible for me to see what is going on with your H60C. Our pickups are high output and really push your amp so let's look at the obvious first. It could be a bad pickup, pickup adjusted too low at the bridge compared to the neck, would be the first things I would check. The bridge pickup should be closer to the strings than the neck pickup is. The neck gives you more bass response and sounds louder. Did you purchase the guitar used? If so, was it this way all along, or did this just happen recently?

The best thing to do would be to call me at the shop today and we can figure it out together. I am sure we will get it sorted out.
