Custom Hallmark Custom

Postby MWaldorf » Mon Jan 18, 2010 6:27 pm

I mentioned this in the Guitar Geek Festival thread, but I had the chance to debut my new Custom Hallmark Custom this weekend. The guitar was built by Bill Gruggett, with handwound pickups by Bob Shade. Maybe it would be best to call it a 59.5 Custom III as it has features from the 60 Custom and the 59 Custom, as well as a few unique elements. It's all genuine Hallmark, with the exception of the Vibramute, which is a Mosrite part I put on after I took delivery. It's a great sounding guitar and suits my needs for a performance guitar.

Here's a picture of Bob and me with it at GGF:

I haven't really had a chance to compare them yet. I can say that the handwound ones sound really good. I'll be able to give a report on the comparison after our next band rehearsal, as Bob was kind enough to let me take home a sunburst 60 Custom which Shecky will be playing in MBP. He took it home to familiarize himself with it, and I didn't get a chance to plug it in beforehand. I did play it unplugged, and agree with the rest of the owners here who are impressed with these guitars.

Wow! A doubleneck AND a 59 Custom within a week ... You are one fortunate man, Mel. I have to suppress this feeling of GAS I'm getting now. But still enjoying the MK I you brokered for me ...

I know! Now if only there was a lefty Hallmark 60 Custom bass, we'd have it all!!!

And yes, a custom Hallmark, Hallmark 60 and THE Ellison Maphis in one weekend - I've used up my guitar spending money for the next few years.

The burst on the Custom looks different - wider red band. Was that finish special order?
