Hi! It's not a Hallmark, but it is part of the family.

The Eighny Gitfiddle:

I shared these pics in my introduction thread, but I thought I'd share them here as well.

That's got to be a Gruggett Stradette under a different name. I've never heard of Eighny, but "GuitFiddle" is a good name for that thing! Is it a one-off, or was there actually production? It's probably made from leftover Mosrite/Gruggett parts. Cool guit (fiddle)!

I agree, that is a Bill Gruggett built Stradette bass with another logo on it. I have a Gruggett built Stradette bass too. It plays and sounds great.

I am e-mailing Ed Sanner to see if he knows anything about it.

I can restore it to it's original beauty if you like. I have the original parts and can re finish it and put the original Gruggett logo back on it too.

It would increase the value and preserve it. It is a rare bass, and should be preserved for the next generations of collectors and players.

Let me know if you have any interest.

Bob

Bob,

Thank you for the reply. I am very interested in restoring it back to Bill's original vision. I have owned it for close to 30 years and I've learned more about it in the last week than ever before. Too bad I didn't start looking back into its history a few years ago, I might have been able to take it to Bill in Bakersfield and get it restored by him. I would appreciate any more info anyone has, it's a beautiful looking (even in its current state) and beautiful sounding (whether amplified or acoustic) bass.

Don't worry Kathy, when I've got enough $ set aside I'll be sure to contact Bob to do a proper restoration :)

Looks like it's been a while since anyone posted about getting a Hallmark. I just got a Hallmark bass! I'm almost finished my review and introduction. I will post it here as soon as I'm done. Meanwhile here's a shot of it. The pic doesn't do it justice. It's a Hallmark 65 sunburst with a tort guard.
