Call me what you may, but I have to ask. Does that three-screw pick guard present a problem down the road. Is there anyone with one of the originals who could help here.
I know the reason for it but I still wonder if it was actually a cost efficient error. I'm sorry, but I'm an engineer and this is how I think.

My 1983 Side-Jack has a 3 screw pickguard with no problems. :D

I have number 0049 and it is fine with 3 screws. I know of others who have 63's and I don't see much issues. As well the old plastic was celluloid and the new is a more modern plastic more resistant to natural elements, temp, and such. I really think these will out last the purchaser or the seller being Hallmark in this case. But you really just never know about plastics, glue, and such when it comes to decades of time. I would say it is worth the risk. ( heck put more loles in it if it makes you more comfortable)

Really looking forward to the roll-out on this one - You gonna sign the back of the headstock, a la Semie, for us, Bob? "Hallmark forever ...."

Well, if Mr. Shade is comfortable with the situation (and true owners aren't having problems) then who am I to argue. My assumption was based on a number of older Fenders and a couple of Gibsons that showed considerable pickguard warping even with numerous screws applied. Thanks for the input everyone.

I would be honored to sign the rear of the headstock for you. It may nmake it worth less though. (Kidding)

Oh yeah!!! I can see it now, on the Antiques Road show in 2030 the expert appraiser says "This is a Hallmark 59 Custom from around 2009 judging from the serial number. They currently go for around 10 to 15 thousand but it looks like somebody scribbled on the back of this one, so ......... (LOL)
Just kidding of course, start signing them anytime the mood hits you Bob.

It got awfully quiet here. I hope that I didn't insult anybody. I did not mean to. I'm actually thinking of driving up to Maryland to see if Mr. Shade will sign my 60 Custom.
Don

ps. While i don't think that the Hallmark will ever get the prices that the old Mosrites will, it's still my treasure.
