The estate (Linda Ramone) licensed the name to Hallmark. She owns the rights to Johnny Ramone & the signature that appreas on the pick guard. She is well within her rights to do so. I'll say that 98% of the people who will buy that guitar because of the signature on the pick guard & not the playability of the guitar will know that Johnny played a Mosrite & not a Hallmark.

I don't know for sure, but I think it is safe to assume that Linda is protective over Johnny's brand on some level. She isn't gonna put his signature on a guitar that doesn't honor Johnny & the Ramones. As being one of the very first to play the Sheena model (Now the JR model blue), I can say that this guitar is about the closets thing to the real deal, with out selling off your newborns, that a fan can get. It isn't a vintage Mosrite & everyone knows it. It is a guitar that is built very close to the specs of the original. It is to honor the legacy of Johnny Ramone, not trick people into thinking that he played Hallmark guitars & not Mosrites.

I purchased my first Mosrite from Ed Roman & had a decent experience. There is a thread on here somewhere that documents my journey with him. In the end I was left with a beautifule guitar & I personally don't have anything bad to say about the man or his store. There are plenty of people on-line that do, for some reason; & that's fine. On this point, I think he's way off. The deal with Fillmore fell through for same reason & Linda had her reasons for going to Hallmark.

Again, this guitar is fantastic. I play it more than my Mosrites. It's is intended to be an inexpensive guitar that is almost a dead-on replica of what he played. It is not intended to mislead anyone into believing that Johnny Ramone was endorsed by Hallmark when he was a touring Ramone. To insinute that is just plain silly.
In order of purchase:
1) Mosrite Ranger
2) V88
3) Stereo 350
4) Hallmark II in Johnny Blue
5) Danelectro '66
6) Celebrity III
7) Hallmark Gospel
8) Serenade
9) Eastwood 300
