MBP at Forbidden Island, Alameda, CA, Thursday Sept 9

Postby MWaldorf » Sat Sep 04, 2010 4:53 pm

For the Mosriteous in the San Francisco Bay Area -

Oy vey is mir! Forgot the Jewish New Year? Didn't get your tickets for the High Holiday services?

Worry not, mein bubbele - Meshugga Beach Party is coming to Forbidden Island to provide you and yours with a (mostly) guilt free Rosh Hashannah experience!

Come join the meshuggeners at your favorite Island Tiki Bar this coming Thursday, Sept 9 from 7-10PM for a rollicking evening of music and merriment. Is that enough to make this night different from all other nights? No way, Moshie! To make the evening even more special, FI will be featuring a special Happy Jew Year cocktail sporting Slivovitz, Apples and Honey! And to wash that down, enjoy a corned beef sandwich from Pearl's Kitchen, dishing the delish delicacies in the parking lot!

As has been said, when you're in love, the whole world is Jewish. So see Jew there!
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

Mel,

Pauly, our Beloved Bassist, is too shy to ask, so he asked me
"Can I bring my Moses-rite bass????" in response to your post.

Would you so kindly in your own words, tell him to get off his butt,
and start participating in this Forum??? He's always mouthing off all
kinds of suggestions and ideas, but he ain't got the xxxx's to actually
'express himself' on the 'Mosrite Forum.'

p.s.-I hope he reads this.....
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Thanks Mel for thinking of me, I appreciate that,& as long as I'm here, here's hoping a
happy and healthy New Year for the "Beach Party" people and your "meshbucha" in
general.

PS- Happy to say...my "Moses-rite bass has been getting a good workout lately...(love the sound & tone)
and 'Ricky & Grandpa' (my REAL '62 P bass) are still asleep under the bed, and haven't seen the light of
night since many Purims have passed...

Let me also add that a dear friend of DTM me,and very excellent drummer in his own right,Steve Rheingold,
another Yid from Brooklyn, happened to grow up with your drummer, Stuart Brandt! We have played together
for quite some time, the last good gig was "The Hard Rock" in Hollywood ,Fla. a few years ago and we are
always in touch..."I'S A SMALL SMALL WORLD -AFTER ALL'!!

A shayne danke and shana tova to you Paulie for the new years wishes.

Not surprised there are similarities between Yiddish and Dutch terms, Veenture. Yiddish is an amalgam of a number of European languages, primarily germanic and slavic, with hebrew and aramaic roots as well. While it was the spoken through northern Europe for centuries, another similar language, called Ladino, developed among Jews in the areas of Ottoman influence, from Spain through the Mediteranean, which has roots in Spanish, Turkish, Hebrew and Aramaic. Since the major migration of Jews to the US came from northern Europe, Yiddish was the common language of Jews here as well. Personally I only know a few choice phrases and words in Yiddish, but no one in my family spoke Ladino, so as far as that's concerned, I know bupkes. ;)

Prior to the Holocaust of WWII, "Waterloo Plein" (market square) in Amsterdam had always been the throbbing heart of the city ("Mokum"!). That situation took a death blow from the razzias when so many Jewish countrymen were taken away... :(
Your knowledge of history is excellent Mel, thanks for that bit of education. More here  http://web.me.com/schuffelen/Site/duhebrew.html
For now, I wish you and yours "de mazzel" (or mazzeltoff in Yiddish) :D

Now back to the Forbidden Island
