Hey Danny,

the Blues guy had black hair with a little chin patch thing but definately played a black Mosrite. I can't remember his name, it was short though, like one syllable. He's about 5'8" and slim. He has a great gravely sounding blues voice. The young man from Australia is "Smokin' Joe Robinson". Unreal!

It was a fun evening for sure. Great turn out even for the first event. Congratulation to Dana on a super show.

Got to meet Sarah and her girl friend who did backing vocals with her. Sorry, I can't remember her name. It was real nice to make the connection there. Great job you two. The only other forum members I saw there were Dana and Artie.

I need to make a little correction to the award Joe won in Australia. He won the "Australia's Got Talent" show and $250,000. Your can look it up on Youtube and see his winning performance. That was about 2 years ago. Since then he's been touring the world. He flew in from Germany to do a show with Lee Ritenour on Saturday. After the show at Trout's, Joe was invited to play the Crystal Palace the next night but had to decline because of previous commitments. Joe at only 18 is truly a world class player. It was a treat to see my friend Brian Lonbeck and Joe trading licks.

Here's a couple of shots from Trout's -

Sarah on the Celebrity Mosrite, A duo with Brian Lonbeck and Joe Robinson on guitar. I have a couple of videos I may post on Youtube of the show.

For those interested, Joe will be performing with Lee Ritenour, the jazz guitar multi-Grammy award winner tonight (Feb. 20, 2010) at the Broade Stages in Santa Monica.

Hey, eltuce--

The Celebrity, if mine is a typical example of the breed, is a wonderful guitar. I have been using it in two bands since I got it in December: a Bakersfield country band and a classic rock/rockabilly band, and it does everything I want it to do very well.

It also has the capacity to surprise me. Last night, I was playing through a Behringer solid-state bass amp that was at the practice studio, and it sounded great. When one of the other guitar players asked us to play "That Thing You Do," from the movie of the same name, I tweaked the treble up a lot and got what was a respectable jangley Rickenbacker sound from it, as I think that song is an homage to the Beatles early-album period.

It is very comfortable to play and the action on the neck is superb. My left hand just does not get tired the way it used to when I used mainly Gibson electrics when I played electric guitar.

I use flatwounds on mine and love the way they feel and sound.

Good luck!

Thanks very much for the info! Funny you mention the Gibsons as I have a bunch of old ones and really like the way they feel. My hands tend to not get as tired on the chunkier necks. Being mostly self taught I think I tend to grip a little too tight sometimes but I adjust to the thinner necks within 5 minutes of playing. As far as sound goes my amps are Fender Bassman, Bandmaster Reverb, Gretsch 6161, solid state Vox Pacemaker, Gibson Medalist, and an ADA Rocket A20R. I mostly use the Fender amps for playing loud and the lil' Gretsch at home. I had flatwounds on my old Hagström Viking and loved 'em, been meaning to try them out again. What do you think is good price wise for a Celebrity these days? There are a bunch out there. Guitar Center believe it or not had what seemed to be fair prices on a few. A big part of me wants to hold out for one that I can actually play first.

Terry, thank you for posting the pictures! I have to say that is not my good side! But, my Celebrity looks great! What a treat it was to see these two great guitar players trade riffs. Just amazing. I am going to treasure this photograph because I have no doubt that Joe Robinson is going to be really famous one day. Boy, talk about cool, I got to be on the same stage as these two guys and the played along with my two songs. Very cool indeed! My roommate Vicki and I haven't stopped talking about it. I wish her boyfriend could have seen that.

As for Celebrities, I'll take a wild guess and say most go between $700 - $1,200. I have seen higher priced ones but they don't sell. There are some unique color schemes that may fetsch a little more.

As for playability, I really love playing my Celebrity. I like the speed frets and slim neck with my hands. I have to watch playing through tube amps sometimes because I can get some screaming feedback. I use it for Country, Rockabilly, and even Rock. They are quite versatile.
