Eastwood Mach II Pickup Change

Postby SouthernVersion » Thu Sep 17, 2020 9:05 am

Hey all, I just recently registered my account. As a Ramones fan I had to have a Mosrite Ventures II but obviously can't afford one. So I ended up picking up the Eastwood Mach II a few years ago. But quickly found out how much I disliked the DiMarzio FS-1 and Mini-Humbucker look that Johnny had from the late 80's to the end of the Ramones career. So I set out to acquire a pair of black soap bar pickups like the original Mosrite Slab Body Ventures II had. I contacted Bob Shade from Hallmark Guitars to build me a pair of pickups to Johnny's specs. And well, here is the result. Let me know what you think! :)

Welcome to the forum!

The new pickups look great in your Eastwood. They look like the pickups in my Hallmark Johnny Ramone which sound fantastic. How do they sound compared to the DiMarzio FS-1? Did you have to make a new pickguard to fit the new pickups?

Thank you! They are the same pickups as in your Hallmark because I ordered them from Bob Shade. The difference in sound between the DiMarzio FS-1 and the Hallmark ones are like the difference in the sound between early and late Johnny Ramone tone. The FS-1 is hotter than the Hallmarks, but the Hallmarks sound almost perfect for Johnny's early tone. And no I used the old pickguard from Eastwood to fit the new pickups, just used a Dremel, sandpaper and some patience to get them to fit!
