My first Mosrite project.

Postby JOAK » Sat Jan 26, 2019 9:42 am

Hello all!
I finally got started my first Mosrite project. Thanks for everybody in this forum, i have found an answer to every question i have got so far.
As you see from picture below, the project is in the very beginning. MDF templates are copied to plywood, and neck is under work. I already purhcased Moslike vibrato and Kurokumo neckplate, but i don't even have basswood planks for the body yet. I don't even know yet where to by it. If i can't find it in Finland, i'll have to order it from abroad. This will be an interesting project as a second guitar i have ever built.

Those are from https://www.guitarbuildingtemplates.com . I decided to copy them on plywood to make them last longer.

Not very much happened today. In three hours all i had done, was a routing for neck truss rod :D
Of course, some time went to wondering where that routing should exactly to be done. There is no accurate and detailed drawings available, so we had to do some creative guesswork with my teacher, using pictures from the internet as a guideline. I also purchased the truss rod and wood for fingerboard ( in the picture with neck + truss rod). Next thing is to take the fretboard to the local luthier for making fret slots. I am building this guitar at municipal adult education centre's "musical instrument building course". We have course nights at every thursday evening, and six-hour session at every second saturday. Next time the course will be at next thursday. I hope i can get the fretboard glued then, and begin to shape the neck.

Great fun. I would love to take a course like that. What wood did you choose for the fretboard?

I think the fretboard is rosewood. At least it looks like. I need to check it from my teacher who sold it to me. I wanted dark fretboard because i think it might look better with sunburst finish.

Just a note I have the neck template from them and there are numerous things wrong with it. I brought it up with the seller and he basically said "I never said it was accurate". The neck heel depth/side measurement is a bit to large which makes it sit slightly too high and makes setting it up well difficult. Also if you look at those tuner holes they are not in the right spot at all. In fact if you put them where they have them the high and low E holes would be in the sloping down part of the headstock. The neck thickness and width dimensions are all good. Just be aware to check online measurements and tweak it where it needs it. Which is mainly around the neck heel and the tuner hole placement.
