Which bits could I use to make the dropoff of a german carve on a Mosrite inspired guitar? Thanks.

I've used a 1/2" cove bit (with a bearing guide) and hand carved the rest, but I've been tempted to try an Ogee bit for the upper part of the bouts to see how that would work, but I've never tried it.

FWIW, I've managed a pretty good carve with a 3.5" ogee bit.

I've read this question several times over the course of being a member here, and have seen several recommendations on how to achieve the German Carve.
BUT I have never heard How Mosrite did it ?

Dan, I'd like to know this too.

You might check out some of the old posts by EF Elliott. He’s an ex-Mosrite guy and I believe has shown how he does the body carve in some of his builds.

I recall them, they're good references and it's nice to see the pics are still up:

Main topic:

Routing the Bodies (and using the router to start the carve: )

Carving the rest:

Also, as far as a 3.5 Ogee bit goes, I got multiple results in Google. Is this is the one we're talking about ?

That one seems awful wide to me. Maybe something more like the one on the left here (just shown for the shape, not the size?)

Perhaps I should have been more specific; I was referring to the bit for a Mark V model. A Cove bit isn't shaped right. The Mark V seems to need a very specific Ogee bit that looks more like this, I don't think this one is quite right though:

This is a 2-1/4 and I think I need a 2-1/2. I'm not sure if I need a 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch shank.
