The above is the body of my project, a two pickup, sunburst Mark bass. It's got plenty of finish cracks, nicks and dings, a few wrong holes drilled and some icky and badly touched up gouges. This project is a recreation of the bass I used in my first band in 1976.

I used it through my first 3 bands, trading it for an acoustic 12 string after the neck cracked.

I don't much care about vintage originality, as I never plan to sell this bass, so what I really wanna know is. . .is it cheaper to have the existing finish touched up, or have the body stripped and refinished in 3 tone sunburst?
I also live in the SF Bay Area, and know of only one place the work could be done. Input, advice and pricing info would be greatly appreciated.

i realize that I'm a bit late replying to this thread but there is a guy named Pat Wilkins who does amazing restoration and refinishing work. He could bring your bass back to looking new without the thick finish that was prone to cracking. I have 2 Mosrite basses, a 1965 Ventures that had what I believe is an automotive paint finish and a later 60's bass that had the thick clearcoat finish over sunburst. My sunburst bass has cracks all over the finish.
