Celebrity wiring

Postby RNE228 » Tue Mar 21, 2017 11:13 pm

Hi,

I have a 1960's Mosrite Celebrity. The guitar had been rewired at some point; I got it with the spare/old pots. There's a couple broken wires.

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for that guitar; lots of web search, but have not located a wiring diagram for this specific model.

Every search I do, I come up with more questions.

- Not sure the pickups were in right positions. The one on the neck measures 11.07kohm, the bridge measures 7.9kohm(disconnected)

- The existing Pots measure 500kohm volume, 225kohm tone. Old pots measures 640kohm and 512kohm. If old pots are original, what difference would the different ohm rating make in sound? I know Semi Mosely used his own pickups, I wonder if these pots were a better match for the Moserite P90 style pickups?

This Mosrite Celebrity has the pots, switch, and jack thru the body, not the removable plate. It is single volume pot, single tone pot.

I'd like to be able to verify the wiring, and put it to original. I see diagrams for Ventures and others, but am looking specifically for Celebrity wiring.

Once again, Sarah may be able to help with the Celebrity wiring.

Hi Robert,

I'm Sarah, the Celebrity Queen. :D The Celebrity family of Mosrite guitars are my passion. I own the website, www.MosriteCelebrity.com. It is currently down as my web hosting company simply vanished without warning. I have recovered my files and have to build a new site. I expect to relaunch it yet this year.

I have been studying the variations, etc. on the Celebrity for a lot of years. I can certainly draw up a wiring diagram. I would like to see photos of what you have and all of the parts. I'd like to see what you have and determine if you are missing anything. If your neck is held on with 2 screws through the back then you have an original Celebrity, prior to the CE-I, CE-II, and CE-III model designation. If the neck is held on with 3 or 4 screws and the pickups are hum buckers then it will likely be a 1973 or 1974. I can tell so much more from photos. If you prefer to email them, then send to me at sarah@MosriteCelebrity.com.

The pots that came in the Celebrity should have a seven digit code beginning with 134 or 137. Look for a code on the side of the pot or on the back that looks something like: 1346732.

I'm anxious to see what you have!

Hi Sarah!
My Celebrity is Ser A0539. It is a two screw neck.
It definitely saw use and abuse before I got it. The wood is good, but the finish on the neck shows scratches and knicks. On the body, the finish has lots of cracks. It has been refretted.

The guitar itself plays wonderfully. But the electronics have a couple broke wires. The pots ohm out different from originals.

The wiring needs to be cleaned up. I do not know if it is correct; it does not match with schematics I have found for other single coil setups.

Original Pots are both = 1346647
Interesting because they ohm out 640k and 512k...

Hi Robert,

the original pot code of 1346647 means that they are Central Labs and were produced the 47th week of 1966, or the week of November 27th, 1966. That tells me your guitar was likely built in the first quarter of 1967.

The pickup on the right with the foam and orange stuff and aluminum bar looks normal to me. The pickup on the left without all of that doesn't look right to me. The selector switch is missing the switch tip. They pop up on eBay quite frequently or Bob Shade may have an OEM part. The cap on the pots looks correct. I will need a day or two to draw up a wiring diagram. It looks like you have all of the parts you need, we just need to determine that the wires go where they need to and what is going on with the left pickup. Hopefully, someone will chime in on that one.

Hi Robert,

I'm looking at the second photo and those look like CTS pots used in Gibsons, etc. from about 1985. What code do you see there?

I have the tip for the switch; just not in photo.

I'll get more pickup photos. Both say Mosrite on the front.
- The "Epoxy" back pickup measure 11.07kohm
- The "Metal" back pickup measure 7.90kohm
