Mosrite pickups

Just a note to thank Eddy Elliott for his work on a couple of pickups I sent to him to be reworked. These are the ones I got from Curtis, and were not in the best shape. I just unpacked them, then re-packed them and sent them to Ed - when I got them back, they look like new pups. I'll be installing them in this NOS Nokie model I'm putting together, but just wanted to say that Eddy Elliott is a true craftsman .... Thanks!

Mel, I just put some of Ed's pickups in the Excellent, and it's even closer to your '66 now. Ed makes some great stuff!

Fritz, that's great! How would you describe the difference in sound? Is the output level different? More treble? More bass? More definition? I think the Excellent pickups are nice, and generally correct, but Ed's pickups are spot on in materials and construction. Plus his hardware is more robust than the Excellent. If I remember, the Excellent pickup height bars were just held in place by some glued on rubber sheets and the adjustment threads were a bit iffy.

Mel, I lack the knowledge and expertise to describe the differences beyond "smoother" and "more sophisticated". The Excellent pickups seem a little harsh and louder in comparison (they're going into a Gretsch Pro Jet). I did notice the adjustment threads being out of whack, and since I love being able to adjust things and Ed had his pickups available, it was a no-brainer. I was surprised to note that although Ed's pickups measured at 12/13k vs. the Excellent's 8k, they didn't seem as loud; I guess the measured resistance doesn't always relate to the output (did I say that right?) In any event I can hardly wait to try them out through my soon-to-arrive '65 Bandmaster!

Yeah, I had talked with Eddy a while back for a pair of Humbuckers. He told me "Let me know what you want, and ya' got it."
Well, it don't get much easier than that! LOL! I kept thinking I'd find a pair of Mosrite Humbuckers on line or E-Bay, but at
anywhere from $125-$170, I'm probably going to have to check back with him.....

does anyone know how to get a hold of Ed. I have some pickups I wanted rewound, but he won't respond back to my emails.
