Oh no, not another MkII homage?!?

Hi folks,

A very nice chap down here in Brisbane is building me a Notrite Bad Mongo MkII (i.e. Mosrite Ventures MkII homage). He's already built a beautiful MkII bass for our bass player (it's basically a P-Bass that looks like a MKII) so I've decided to jump in and get him to build me a Les Paul Junior that looks like a MKII.

The problem we have is we don't have any drawings or any accurate dimensions, the first CAD drawing my guy came back with (he's an engineer by day) has a headstock that looks way too big. We don't even know how thick the body should be, we're pretty much working from pictures off the internet. :|

As I've said, this won't be a copy, we're taking liberties with the bridge, the pickup, there won't be a tone knob and the materials will also be different. It'll be a Junior in MkII clothing. 100% Johnny Ramone meets Johnny Thunders machine.

So I need some help, does anybody out there have drawings they'd be willing to let us have a look at? I'd like the body and neck to be as close to the original design as possible, I'm a stickler for these kinds of things. I will be approaching Tim at Tym's Guitars as well but the poor guy is drowning in pedal builds and running a business so I don't really wanna take advantage of his good nature.

Many thanks in advance... Links to the CAD drawing and my headstock decal design below.

Thanks, Austin...

It's really just a bit of fun for all concerned, the guy building it is just starting out and I'm happy to put the project his way... Not something you get the opportunity to do very often... Unless you're loaded, of course, which I'm definitely not... Very far from it! :)

I needed a couple of things so I went up to see Tim this morning... I asked if it'd be OK to take the tape measure to his MkII sometime, he promptly walked over to a display cabinet, pulled a pristine blue MkII from under the glass and went off to fetch me a ruler... It immediately became apparent that I'm gonna have to use a bit of artistic license to make my design work as Gibson and Mosrite necks are totally different beasts... Makes it fun and more of a challenge anyway...

I then had a play on a couple of other lovely guitars, a (refinished) white MkI and a Wosrite Royale which was the guitar Tim designed for Nikki from the Hellacopters...

Final coats of paint and lacquer went on yesterday... Super excited about this guitar! Mock up of the final decal design there as well...

The second picture is the headstock of my old Kurokumo Mosrite :) I can see the brand of the cigarette from miles away (and the blanket), but nice photomontage :D

Ha! That's awesome!

She's finished, I've had her back for a couple of months now and she plays absolutely brilliantly... Much heavier than a real Mk2 but this is a solid slab of mahogany so that's no real surprise... It needs to go back to the luthier as the neck angle is a bit off, doesn't affect playability but aesthetically it isn't quite right...

The sound is amazing, the Mick Brierley P90 is fantastic... I went for the vintage 50s style output and it roars, it's on par with the factory P90 in my original '58 Junior... It really kicks butt...

Great project, really happy with the result...
