Searching for small parts

Postby falseprofits » Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:20 am

I'm restoring a Combo and having a hard time finding some small parts. Anyone have a source for strap buttons, it's missing one, but of course I'll take a set of two if that's all I can find. One of the M knobs (short with the T and V) has a good size chip in the chrome, but I assume my best bet would be to have them replated. It's also had two of the tuners replaced, and not with Kluson Deluxe's so I'm looking for a set of those as well. I've found a few of the flat metal on ebay, but for about $200 for the set and not in very good looking shape. I can find polished nickel Klusons, but I don't want to replace the flat with polished as I'm trying to restore it to as close to original condition as possible.
Also the pickguard is missing the corner behind the neck pickup (seems to be a common break on these pickguards as I've seen a number of pictures of this piece missing) My guitar tech can cut a piece from pickguard material and glue it to the original pickguard if I can't find a replacement pickguard. Of course I'd rather find a replacement pickguard.

If anyone has any info or sources that would be amazing. Mainly the pickguard and strap button are the important part. If anyone has any short M knobs that would probably be easier than getting mine replated, at least in the short time I have (trying to get this at least partially restored as a father's day gift - playable and hardware restored by then, then I'll deal with refinishing after)

Thanks!

Hello, we have the replacement parts you need. We have both original NOS strap buttons as well as NOS 60's Klusons as well as reproductions sets of both. We have knobs too.

Chandler makes replacement pickguards for about any Mosrite, so I would call them about the guard you would like.

You can e-mail or call and I will be happy to help.

Best, Bob

I did not see the posting about Sarah. Yes you could try her as well. I did not know she was making guards.

Thanks for the info guys. Bob, I'll shoot you an email about parts. Anyone know of anybody that does good refinishing work? This was a candy apple red combo that ended up being painted over (a tragedy) so it needs to be stripped and cleaned up before hopefully being refinished as close to original as possible.

*ninja edit* I should also mention, that I could handle the stripping and checking for/cleaning up any damage myself then have it painted but I've heard painting with laquer can take a long time to do it right so if there's anyone that has a lot of experience with it and can get it done in the next couple months I'd go that route. Otherwise I'll tackle that project after.

Thanks again,
Adam

Sarah might be hard to locate as she has moved with no forwarding info and hasn't visited this forum since March 30, 2012.

I wondered why i hadn't seen any posts of hers for awhile. I know she ran a website of Mosrite. Maybe it's still up.
The site is still up, here is the link.

Kluson still sells the mosrite/ rik style machines about 50 bucks a set.
