Mosrite-ish trem on eBay

Postby BlackieOnasis » Tue Jan 29, 2013 8:30 am

Hi everyone. I usually just lurk (hence the low post count), but I'm planning a Mosrite inspired build and found a trem on ebay that claims to be "inspired" by the Mosrite Vibramute. I'm not affiliated with this guy in any way, but I have ordered one, should be here this week. I also have never held a real Mosrite, so when it arrives, I won't be able to judge how accurate it is beyond the obvious differences.

Anyway, I thought this might be of interest here. I've seen other posts with eBay links, so I'm assuming this isn't breaking the rules.

If anyone is interested, I'll post more detailed photos of it when it arrives.

I could be wrong, but it looks a LOT like the one M*3 was testing in this thread from 2010:

The M3 unit is hand made cast aluminum, and the one on eBay looks like nickle plated brass. I wonder if the factory that makes the Hallmark hardware has decided to start selling their own version.

Nickel or chrome, but brass definitely. I was referring more to the design than the finish.

$70 bucks and free shipping? Kind of hard to argue with that price. I wonder if these guys will be at the chicago vinatge show coming up in a few weeks. Happy to see they got the string spacing/heights correct on the tailpiece.

Okay, it's absolutely chromed brass. There's a miniscule chip on the underside where it's clearly brass. That being said, it's very light. I have a Bigsby B-5 knock-off that's also chromed brass, and it's much beefier. It feels solid enough though.
The bridge seems to be pretty solid, string spread on it is 2.05" (2 3/64" for those who prefer fractions).

String spread on the trem is only 1.75", though. I'm not sure how that jives with a real Mosrite unit, but I'd like to see it wider for my use. The Fakesby I mentioned above is pretty much a straight shot with the Wilkinson roller bridge on my Ibanez GAX-70.

Chrome is nice, other than the chip on the underside and a small burr on the side of the arm. I can probably deal with the burr, and it doesn't seem to be located in an irritating spot. Still, it's worth noting. The bearings seem smooth, but I won't know how it really performs until I use it on something.

OK, on with the pictures!

Might look good on an SG . . .
