Sarah's pickups restauration.

Postby oigun » Wed May 25, 2011 7:08 am

Today A little package showed up at my doorstep. It contains two dead pickups from our forum-queen Sarah...
See what we have here:
Image
Its clear that both pickups are a little different.
Image
I started with the one at the bottom.
Image
Because the resin is so old and brittle it wasn't very hard to take apart.
Image
You can see the construction, two magnets glued together with six nuts. There is also a piece of copperfoil to shield the coil
Image
Once apart I could access the wires and to my surprise I've got a reading on my measuring device!!
So this one is not dead and I can reassemble it and it will work great again.

The other one is a different story...
Image
It appears to be newer The foam is almost fresh (but the resin inside isn't)
First I tried to get a reading with the wires stripped close to the pickup... Nope dead as a doornail.
So I took apart this one as well.
Image
The construction is also a bit different, there are no nuts inside the polescrews are tapped in a little copperplate instead of the foil. The magnets are not the same too and The black and white wire are reversed.
To get the coil out was a bit of a hassle because someone (Dana??) used contact cement....
Measured again but still nothing.
I tried to slowly unwind it and take measurements along the way but it was impossible to find the broken wire...
So I ended up with this:
Image
I have to rewind this one.
More to come.

Danny I've put this in the wrong place....it should be in Mosrite & Clone, Projects, Parts & Accessories Q&A

Maybe you can move it over there??

Actually, I don't think this should just be in the "Mosrite Clone" section but also in the Vintage section.

These are vintage Mosrite pickups that Oi is studying to produce his own pickups. In the process he is going to repair my original pickups. So, if someone wants to know what the vintage Mosrite pickups look like on the inside this is also the perfect thread for that.

I think it's better to have it in the Vintage section. In my humblest of opinions. :D

Sarah, this isn't the 'Mosrite clone' section, it is 'Mosrite (&) Clone, Projects, Parts & Accessories Q&A' section. This is the proper place for vintage parts and projects.
