I found this on you tube and wasn't sure if the same could apply to guitar finishing?

Maybe you could but why would you want to? No reason to go to such lengths although it was kinda interesting.

I was watching that and was thinking to myself " why didn't he just use a blender at the chop setting" :D

I'd say you gotta have a lot of balls to even try that  ......

Well, I don't know about balls , but it sounds like you got a lot of time on
your hands, I agree with Terry, Lawrence Mc Fadden lacquer is absolutly
the best, I've been using it for years, it's easy to use, drys fast, buffs easy, dosen't crack and I'm pretty
sure you can spray it over your Re Ranch colors.

Well yeah, if I'm going to be finishing an instrument I'm not going to go through all that just to do it. I'm definitely going to get something already made.

hey Kev,

you can also go to your local Lowe's or Walmart, and go into the paint section. pickup yourself Daft high gloss lacquer. this stuff is nitro and works great, and can be sprayed on just about anything. it cost about $4.50 a can in aerosol, and just under 10 bucks for a quart can, if you plan on using a spray gun.
it also comes in semi-gloss and satin too, if you don't like high gloss finishes.
I love larrence-mcfadden too, but I haven't been able to find a supplier that offers it as cheap as Daft. hope this helps.

I wasn't looking to make my own Laquer, I was just curious if the home brew was usable. I plan on getting my nitro from reranch.

i'm pretty sure reranch's supplier is Lawrence McFadden. just keep in mind to do a good clear coat, you'll have to spray it a good 20 plus times before final buffing. to get the clear coat real flat and shiny you have to rub off half the clear anyway. the first guitar I did I misjudged how much clear to spray, and did it too thin and I sanded down to the color coat at the buffing stage.
a hard lesson to learn. now I just make sure I have more then enough clear because you can always rub it down more if you feel the clear coat is too thick.
also I do a light sanding about every 3 to 4 coats, it helps keep the finish flat, and you can better gauge where you are at in the finishing process. hope this helps.
