My new project

That's right, I'm going to be starting a new clone project this time i'm going to try my hand at the german carve. I have maple that I ordered form the last guitar plus I got the Basswood body blank off of ebay. The body blank has a slight crown in it so I'll have to cut it in half, run it through a thickness planer to remove 1/4" of material to make it 1-5/8" thick and then joint it. Then I'll have a flat blank to work off of. I'm thinking of painting it burgandy mist metalic or daphne blue. Hope to start it real soon and as usual I'll post pics as I progress. Kevin

That's a possibility Dennis. I can't seem to find that at the Reranch web site. I don't have a color set in stone just yet. I'm going to wait until I get close to being done to decide the color.

Kev,
I've seen 2 or 3 of these '63 Re-Issues (Japanese) that were just totally Gorgeous!! That C.A.R. with the Body Binding and a MATCHING Headstock just put it over the top! But I haven't seen those for a while now, and the prices are rising fast, but I still believe that I would purchase my first Japanese Re-Issue....if I could find that Color ;) .
Below is Bob K's 1992 Re_Issue,,,,,And that's what I think is my next "Seek and Find."

That lake placid blue metalic that reranch has looks pretty cool.

Hey, Kev ... ReRanch has CAR - you just have to specify when you order that's what you want. I like the Burgundy Mist Metallic ... not as common as the CAR. Was considering doing that color too ... But either one of those are great colors. CAR a little more difficult to get right ...

Sounds like C.A.R. is a possibility now then. :)

Today I got a chance to cut the body blank in half and took it to my buddys' house to run it through his thickness planer. Only problem I have now is to get the jointing surfaces straight, I don't have access to a jointer so I think I'll use double stick tape and the factory edge of some masonite that I have and run it across my router with a flush trim bit to get it straight. Hopefully by this weekend I'll at least have the body cut out and some cavity routing. Kevin

I haven't done this before but it worked out great and can hardly tell where the seam is. I got the body cut out today and started laying out for the German carve. It's the first time I've done this and am really hoping I don't screw up all my hard work and have to junk the body. After viewing one of Geoff Stichs' videos on you tube I've pretty much made my mind up on the color, Surf Green but with either a M.O.P. or cream pick guard I'm leaning toward cream as I already have the extra material from the last build. Pics to come tomorrow. Kevin

Here's those pics as promised. I have yet to buy a 1/2" cove bit so as soon as I get that I'll be on my way to start the carve. Kevin

All traced out and ready to rough cut
