Hey, Dennis--

>>I salute you and the rest of the Members here on this Forum who have the
>>skill, experience and the patience, to be able to make a guitar 'out of nothing.'

Back in the early 1980s, when I was living in Tampa, Bob Bennedetto was living and working as a guitar repair person out of his house in Safety Harbor, Florida. I was always having him do something to my stable of guitars. When he showed me his violinish guitar that he'd made for Joe Pass, I asked where he bought it. When he replied that he had made it from scratch, I flatly called him a liar.

I could accept that a person could PERHAPS have the skills to make a Fenderish solidbody, but to make an acoustic or semi-hollowbody wasn't something a normal human could do.

I still have that feeling when I see these talented folks creating their own metal parts and creating such stunning finishes on their instruments. It is hard for me to understand how they can do such amazing things so well.

It is like a well-done magic trick, only it is true.

Here's some more photo's of this past few days work. I got the body rough routed and the fretboard radiused and fret slots cut, now ready for frets and binding. I'll be routing the neck pockets in the body next and then start shaping the body. I'm starting to get in the double neck mood as I have had Doug Brewers guitar for a couple of days doing some minor work on it.

Hey Danny,
Is that the body from the 'garbage bag,' or did you retrace another body? :?

Yep! That's the old garbage bag tracing you sent last year, with some slight modifications. Damon67 never came thru as promised. :( But when it's finished you'll never know it wasn't the same guitar. I'm having some difficulties in the area of the upper pickup not having enough room before it gets into the carving. However, I WILL make it work. At least I've now got a complete set of scale drawings in case anyone else decides they want to build one. ;) What I need now is a set of those clear plastic Gretsch knobs. I've already got the black Delrin material to turn the selector switch tip on my lathe.

Anyone notice the two dot position markers below the twelfth fret are closer together, as on the original?

This is looking great! If I may, I'd like to request you take several pictures during the process of the german carve. I'm interested to see how it's done.

Danny,
Don't hold me to this, but I think I recall someone (Eddie, Terry?) mentioning that
Fender still had some left for a certain model Gretsch .....???

Got the necks fretted. I used small/medium gauge fret wire on the the standard neck and mandolin wire on the octave neck. The necks have the binding installed and have been fitted to the body but not yet glued in. I'll do that after final shaping and sanding of both necks and body. Plus I'll apply the body binding before setting the necks.
