I definitely want to see more fingers ! Sanding I feel competent to do , the rest has outstripped me so far , especially the aluminium work :-) .. it looked brilliant once it was shiny ...

good stuff .. I'll be here till the sanding of the final finish too ;-) so I FEEL for those sore digits .!

It's coming along nicely, may I ask what radius bit you used to set the starting point? The cutouts apppear that the radius is to small. I use a fairly large cutter that cuts a 1" radius. Don't know what that is in mm or cm. I know that the off the shelf cutters here are a maximum of 3/4". So, I need to go to the commercial suppliers for that. I've never made a Ventures type guitar before. These are just my observations. Your finger plane can certainly blend the German carve to your starting point radius. I use a variety of round and flat sanding blocks and scrapers to finish off the carve. But it is quite difficult to make the radius larger by hand. -Terry

It looks to me as if the later Ventures models were carved using an ogee bit. I'll have to look again, but I'm pretty sure that in one of the videos of Semie's shop in the 1980s he's holding one, and that's what he used on the VIIIs.

http://www.euroguitars.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=98
http://www.tatadoheaven.com/Ric/germancarve.html
then now i see more
i will use a scraper like this
0655 Large, French curve
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Scrap ... lades.html
cause my router bit is only 1/2 inch
it will be long :o
i can't use the same bit cause first i think it is hard to find or special order ,2 the cost of a bit like this  3 too big for my taste really risky for fingers

today no much times then i do this
Image
and beguin the string guide
Image
need few mm to sand again and polishing ect....

normally the router work is finish
