i think it is not the best way to glue part by part the top cause there is lot of risk the seam will be not good
it is hard to make good seam but on wood not to much thick (less than 25 mm or 1 " )it is easyer
you just have to clamp the 2 board on a flat surface with th a space beetween the 2 board just a little less than the diameter of the bit
and after clamp a flat ruller and follow it with the router
like this
http://www.hmdiffusion.com/rftp/sat/html/2603.html
with this trick even if the seam is not really straight the 2 parts have the same defect
mapple is not like other wood if your seam is bad it is not possible to correct it or you need to insert a stick from an another wood (preferably darker )
i hope for you the body in mahogony is really flat ,the mapple too and square cause if not more over with the clamp pressure you can have a really bad seam
nice hollow concept ;)

thanks for the advice, but seems to have worked out great. before gluing it up i clamped it all up dry to figure out my approach first. and yes everything was sanded very flat. i don't think there will be any worries. :)

after gluing on the three piece of maple, i then trimmed off a little of the excuss piece of maple sticking out on the top and then attached my mosrite template and trimmed out the sides with my router.

once that was done i began to cut the german carve. i've never carved a maple top like this before, and it prove to be a little more difficult then carve basswood. maple is much much harder, but generally the harder the wood is, the easier it is to splinter. there was a couple places where the wood splintered off and I had to stop what i was doing and glue it back on and start again later. even though almost all of the wood that splintered off was going to be removed anyway, i didn't want to take a chance screwing that up.
