You could always check Craigslist for a used band saw in your area. They are handy to have. :)

I can cut it up before it glued somewhat I guess and see how that works. I have a huge pile of this wood so I can make mistakes :)

If you can, try to orintate the wood so the tention of the strings is pulling across the grain not with the grain this makes the neck extreemly strong, also called 1/4 sawn and like one of the guys said maple is best for necks. Your blank for your neck should be about 1 1/2" thick x 3 1/2" wide x what ever length.

I'm going out on a trip to Austin for the rest of the week, but when I get back I'll get some pictures of the wood. I think its poplar and its pretty easy to cut. With a truss rod will it matter too much what kind of wood it is? Thought those are made for keeping it straight?

In my opinion, poplar is a no no for the neck, too soft, and no strength to it. It might be ok for the body, but not for the neck
