What Size Truss Rod Wrench Do I Need? (correction)

Postby surfdude2000 » Thu Nov 27, 2008 7:33 pm

*This is a correction of my previous post

What size truss rod wrench do I need for my reissue Mark-I?

I think the luthier said it was 9/32s, but I don't see those available anywhere.

What's wrong with the truss rod in your guitar now? Didn't you just buy this guitar?

Re: Need Truss Rod Wrench >> What Size?

Joe,

Sorry, I don't know the size as I just grab one out of my tool box that fits. They are so old they don't have sizes marked on them. I've never give size any thought. Also, it is possibly metric size if you guitar is a Fillmore Mosrite from Ed Roman. But that's just a guess.

If you put 12's on there I would release the tension on the strings until you can acquire the tool to tighten the truss rod. Otherwise after a few day's it will have permanent relief and will be harder to adjust. Eventually it can ruin the neck. Mosrites have a very thin neck with only about 3/16" of wood between the bottom side of the neck and truss rod channel.

For those would may want to know:

I made another couple trips to my local luthier and he had a 9/32 wrench that works with a little extra room, so we think 7mm may be the actual size. I just ordered one from All Parts and I'll follow up if it fits or not.

Well, I finally tried the 7mm truss rod wrench and it's too big.

Just go to Home Depot and buy a set of allan wrenches, you can get a cheap set for like 20 bucks.

9/32" did the trick. Found it on Stewart McDonald's website.

It's nice to have the right size wrench.
