Replacement pickups in my EX '65 (M3California)?

Postby vibramute » Wed Dec 29, 2010 6:48 pm

I was given a 60's Mosrite harness (vol, tone, pickup switch and ring and jack) for my Excellent '65, and thought about upgrading the pickups while I've got the solder iron out. The stock '65 pickups are nice, I feel I'm getting fairly authentic Venture-ish tone, but I'm always looking to get a little closer. I hear the Hallmark pups are nice, but not exact Mosrite clones. I did some Google searches for Mosrite pickups and came upon M3California guitars. http://guitars.m3california.com/

Their RH-100 set seem worthy, but does anybody here have experience with them? Will they deliver authentic 60's Mosrite tone?

I've got the M3 pickups in my Meshugga Gruggett custom, and I love them. I've found the full/half output settings to be very useful both to get Mosrite and Fender-y sounds, as well as quick switching from a lead and rhythm volume. I highly recommend them.

I've also got Ed Elliott's pickups in my V3 and they're great too. The ones I have are one output level only but they nail the Mosrite tone, and the construction is vintage correct to a T.

Can't go wrong with either of them.
