Re: Guitar Neck
You could always check Craigslist for a used band saw in your area. They are handy to have.

Re: Guitar Neck
I can cut it up before it glued somewhat I guess and see how that works. I have a huge pile of this wood so I can make mistakes

Re: Guitar Neck
If you can, try to orintate the wood so the tention of the strings is pulling across the grain not with the grain this makes the neck extreemly strong, also called 1/4 sawn and like one of the guys said maple is best for necks. Your blank for your neck should be about 1 1/2" thick x 3 1/2" wide x what ever length.

Re: Guitar Neck
I'm going out on a trip to Austin for the rest of the week, but when I get back I'll get some pictures of the wood. I think its poplar and its pretty easy to cut. With a truss rod will it matter too much what kind of wood it is? Thought those are made for keeping it straight?

Re: Guitar Neck
In my opinion, poplar is a no no for the neck, too soft, and no strength to it. It might be ok for the body, but not for the neck
