Masking off binding
Any recommendations for a good tape to mask off the binding during finishing? I've seen several examples, but would like to see what the good folks here have to say. Thanks!

Re: Masking off binding
Go to an auto paint supply store and get a roll of of each 1/4" and 1/8" masking tape made by 3M products. I/4" for the side and the 1/8" for the top edge. After you apply the tape, use a tack rag and go around the tape with slight pressure. This will remove any fuzzy edge caused by the glue on the tape. When you paint, pull the tape off right away or at least before the paint hardens. Otherwise it will sometimes pull paint off with it.
I see in Elliott's photo essay that he uses the 1/4" tape on the edge and scrapes the edges with a razor edge type tool he made up for the purpose.

I use silver metallic tape from the auto parts store that is 1/4 inch and is used for pinstriping like a decal sort of. Hope I explained it right. Still worn out after Deke and the Modern Sounds firestorm of a show last night.

Hey Denpr,
Good masking tape will work, but I use Fine Line tape. it's also made by 3M.
It's the tape custom paiters use to tape off flames and other custom graphics.
It comes in blue and light green. The Green works the best for me. The blue is kind
of strechy and harder to get a straight line.

The light green 3M is the best one I have used for different projects.
