Doc Watson was a pioneer flat picker of immense talent. His lightning fast bluegrass riffs were the yard stick for many a flat picker to follow including Tony Rice and Ricky Skaggs. I first became aware of this giant in the early 70's when he was sitting in with the "Nitty, Gritty, Dirt Band on their album 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken'. The track was "Way Downtown" It was breathe taking to hear such mastery of the style. I took a keen interest in the picking style ever since. Couldn't find the original track of Way Downtown on Youtube but this one is pretty good too. There are many more videos on Youtube that showcase is talent. I will miss him.

As an aside - Doc Watson was blind and he also named his son after Merle Travis.

For those that may not be aware of Tone Rice.
