The Ventures Live in Japan!

Postby Bushers » Tue Jan 20, 2009 2:51 pm

Ok, a few months ago in another thread I spoke about a couple of live albums that the ventures did in the later half of the 60's. I bought Live Again some time ago and was so impressed that I pursued in finding the other albums that the Ventures did in Japan at this time, they are;

Live in Japan (Original that most know and love from Beloved Invaders)
Live in Japan Vol 2 (Hard to come by in the Vinyl format but available second hand, if you can find it on CD)
Live Again (same as above)
On Stage, Encore (same as above)

Now, I have my many Ventures albums located back in the UK and cannot get to them or the many CD's that I bought while a member of the Ventures fan club in the UK. They released several albums in Japan under EMI Past Masters, though they were very expensive, I remember spending nearly all of my paper round money on them!!

I have here a link for you to download, as this album is no longer available and you guys really need to hear it, there is a copy on Amazon for $180 and I just got this one for a little over $70, mad you say, listen and then tell me if i'm mad or not...!! If you like Live in Japan, this is gonna blow you away!!!!

My personal favorites are Black Sand Beach, Blue Chateau (this live version!) and Sentimental Guitar.....man its good to hear these again!!!

*EDIT* See link below for the Bit torrent I have going for this album, its safe and easy to use and pretty quick too as the files arent that big. I still hope to get an FTP up for those that want the direct route, though this might take some time.. :D

Hey Jason--

Yes, those are great, and I'm partial to "Live Again" myself because it really sounds like they were on speed for that one, "Diamond Head" is literally twice the tempo as on the other live record. ha! By the looks of the cover it appears they did that one with Combos too, not solidbody Ventures models, and it sounds....great. Surprising.

When I was in Japan I was surprised to see they kept releasing live in Japan albums well into the 80's, looks like every tour they did they would do a special live album of. I bought as many as I could, and there are a few from the 70's when Nokie came back that are surprisingly good! I wonder if anybody has a complete discography of these.

The American release "Live in Japan 1965" on EMI is out of print but not that expensive to find on CD. If anybody here on the list is interested in hearing how good these are I would suggest finding that one first.

Jason, Deke,
Nice to hear you guys talking Ventures music ;) I'm always on the lookout for stuff myself that's on my wants list and many live albums are still missing :( I know that some of those elusive live recordings are out there but in VERY expensive Japanese CD "Live boxes"; that is if you can find them! (I was fortunate enough 'though to lay my hands on CDs "ON STAGE '71" and "ON STAGE '73" - a record shop owner had split up one such "Live Box" and these two copies were the only ones left!)

I still have a handfull of vinyl albums (also on CD) but plan to transfer my double album "Ventures Super Live '80" onto CD shortly. For this purpose I have specially ordered an USB recordplayer.

I can go on and on about the Ventures of course but this is a Mosrite forum but if you're interested we could talk lots more about swapping duplicate or perhaps backup copies? :idea:

Just PM me,
Cheers,
Paul

Hey Paul,

This is the music related section of the Mosrite forum. Talk about the Ventures or any other artist till your hearts content. That's what it's here for. ;)

yeh, I'm trying to fix that. For some reason I can access it from the email it generates the link from but cant after its posted as a link on the forums. I'll try with a friend to host it on an ftp so that you can download directly, for now if anyone wants the files, pm me your email address and i'll send you the link directly from the Cox hosting... This Cox file share is proving to be a little dissapointing...! :(

Ok, for any of you that use Bit torrent?? I have uploaded a torrent where you can download this file, take it from this link;

http://www.demonoid.com/files/download/ ... 14/5863888

For those that dont have any idea what I am talking about then you need to download a program that allows torrent downloads like U Torrent. Install this safe and easy to use software then double click on the torrent file you downloaded above or use the icon in the program to 'add torrent'. This will then automatically start downloading, the speed increases by the number of people using the torrent, its a kind of file share program that you can use to get many different kinds of files/music/software etc etc.

Only thing you need to have to achieve full potential of this program is the correct port forwarded if you have a router, this requires a little help if you dont know about port forwarding, but isnt that difficult and I can walk someone through it if need be :D

I had almost every American LPs by The Ventures in the '60s. I didn't care for everything they did but to just to hear, primarily, the sound of Mosrite instruments was worth playing each LP at least once. In my opinion, Nokie can play circles around such guitar "gods" as Eric Clapton who never impressed me the way Nokie (and Don) did. There should be a statue erected somewhere with Eric sitting on Nokie's lap!

But to get to the point of this reply, Deke has mentioned the reason(s) why I don't care for live Ventures. Since they've played everything in their catalog over and over, one more time won't mean a thing and they do it by rote so emotion is gone and they got to get through yet another playing of "Walk Don't Run" or whatever. Perhaps before each performance they kidded with each other and Nokie said to the others "I bet I can do that songs in 3 notes!" And like Deke said, speed is of the essence without the essence.

Give me the original studio versions everytime and I'll close my eyes and drift off to guitar paradise. The sounds on "Surfing" for instance. You can almost feel the wood of the Mosrites! That was due to careful studio engineering, something that's not possibly capturable on stage.

For me, "The Ventures Live, Again" in the studio!
