DOWNLOADING VENTURES TUNES...

I’d like to share with you if I may; some of my findings regarding mp3 downloads, particularly with regard to THE VENTURES, (of course!) in the hope that it may prove helpful to others too as it has been for me.
Most of us serious collectors of VENTURES tunes are aware of the many alternate takes, versions/mixes, different arrangements etc., not to mention the pile of re-recordings they’ve made over the past 50(!) years or so, that have been published. I imagine therefore that we all have our wants list and I for one try to narrow it down all the time…
When I go shopping on the internet for those illusive Ventures tunes, I always like to first check out a complete track whenever possible in certain cases, before buying so as to avoid unnecessary duplication in my music collection.
Now usually most (pay) download sites offer only a short clip and sometimes that’s not enough to make a positive identification of a track I’m looking for or perhaps to discover something new even.
Last year one day, while web surfing, I happened to stumble upon a new but unknown version of “DETOUR” which first appeared on “The Ventures” album (1961).
The newly recorded “Detour” was perhaps meant for their “GOLD” album published in 1999 but evidently didn’t make it somehow.
I then searched -in vain- for it’s possible release on some other CD but can only come to the conclusion that it has been released on the web only. Possibly in 2005 and -as I later discovered- together with about 15(!) more ‘unknown’ recordings that seem to have been released on the web only, as far as I can tell.
Needless to say I bought the lot and made myself a nice compilation CD (named it “SAXY VENTURES!”) -unique in the whole world (lol).
Take a listen to the full-length 1999 recording of DETOUR (and many other tracks too and all in stereo) that I had discovered at:

Check it out and enjoy!
