NOS Mosrite works great

Last Saturday night the new Mosrite hit the stage ( not literally LOL) and everything worked great. It sounded better that the Hallmark even though it had the Hallmark pickups in it. The only thing I can think of that may make the difference is the bridge being mounted on the brass tail piece as apposed to straight into the wood top. It had a bit more sparkle to the highs than the Hallmark. Even my wife thought it sounded better and she usually thinks I am crazy when I try to get just the tone I am after out of any given guitar. I can't wait to get the Mosrite pickups back now. LOL All I can say is that the Hallmark pickups sound more like Mosrite pickups on a Mosrite compared to the Hallmark.

Glad to hear you like it, Jim! If I don't succeed in finding the perfect vintage Mark 1 within in the next 6 months I demand you to build me one .

Are those NOS parts from the same period?

Congrats! Interesting how the Hallmark pickups sound different in the Mosrite - besides the bridge mounting, isn't the bridge itself different? Also, does your Hallmark have a metal or plastic string spacer/nut? Other than that, maybe body wood and finish could play a role? What value volume and tone potentiometers does Hallmark use?

The time period for the parts I have to guess is late 80's. Jones Ridge factory.

The Hallmark does have a plastic string guide at the nut but it uses a zero fret so that would cancel that out for sound difference. The bridge itself is almost identical to a Mosrite and the finish is also urethane. As for the pots Hallmark uses 250k but I changed them to 500k and a .05 cap. I used the same pots and cap. as I have in the Hallmark in the Mosrite. Wood I can't tell what the Mosrite has but think it may be Basswood because it seams a bit softer than the Hallmark witch is supposed to be Alder. As for other spec. on both there is almost no difference. The Hallmark neck and body are cut to the same spec's as the Mosrite. I think I did read that the necks were made wider in the later years on Mosrites. Bob Shade does know how to reproduce the dimensions of a Mosrite.
