Book about The Ventures

Postby Desert Surfer » Sun May 11, 2008 10:37 am

The only book I could find about The Ventures (not Tab nor Music books) is this one (It was published just a few months ago)

Walk-Don't Run; The story of The Ventures; This book was written by another forum friend; Del Halterman. Del gave a very detailed history, stories of The Ventures. It is a big book with 386 pages. Not cheap; $39.99 plus shipping. Available only from http://www.lulu.com Not available from Amazon nor any other online book stores at discounted price.

I have this book. It's great and very thorough. Lots of photos, even though none of them are in color. The pages & text lines are a little bit wide for my taste, but it makes fun reading anyway.

There is another Ventures book though. Can't remember the details since I haven't received it yet. I ordered both of these books from Twangsville Productions (record company that releases a lot of rautalanka style guitar instro records, and our surf band The Silver Hawks also).
This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!

Here's more information about the other book:

Driving Guitars: The Music of The Ventures in the Sixties
By Malcolm Campbell and David Burke

From what I heard, it was released July, 28th.

It sounds like a great book. Can you tell us where can I get a copy? I just checked Amazon who does not carry this title.

Thanks,

I ordered the Halterman book after reading about it here. Haven't finished reading it yet, but so far a great detailed history.

I agree with Chemo about the text being set in too wide of a column on the page, but great information, straight from the source.
