Was watching some videos and a link was posted for backing tracks, the site was in Japanese and through my searching I found this page:
http://5.pro.tok2.com/~retele1972/live71a1.htm
Its all about the Ventures 1971 tour of Japan. Bob Bogle is pictured with a violin bass, Gerry has a LP, It looks like Don has an SG* Theres also photos of a younger man playing slide guitar with them(Sleepwalk? )
Anyways, pretty cool site, heres the link that lead to that live page:
http://5.pro.tok2.com/~retele1972/moji_live.htm
It has other live links on it, maybe some other cool photos too!
Zac

Cool, Zac!…it’s always fun to visit Japanese websites where you can often find new things about The Ventures, Mosrite and other related things! Thanks for sharing
For the sake of interest, allow me to make a few remarks:
The "younger man playing slide guitar" is actually young John Durrill on Keyboards and BTW, Sleepwalk is not featured on the album.
For some strange reason Sleepwalk does not appear on any of their live albums during the sixties and seventies. The first 'live' recording of it was done in 1983 with Jeff Baxter on steel guitar and issued for the first time 6 years(!) later on VHS Cassette to coincide with The Ventures’ 30th. Anniversary (see: "Super Session" with guest artists - Toshiba EMI WV048-3020).
The first real live recording featured on album was from their 2000 Japan Tour!
The Ventures also appeared with the same gear on a TV special of The Trini Lopez Show in 1969.

Re: Bob Bogle with a Violin Bass
A very elusive album. I have never seen a copy in person even though I have been seeking out Ventures albums for 20 years. Even or friend Veenture can't find the sound file!
btw. Great photo I've never seen it before thanks for posting it Veenture
I have often wondered what would the Ventures have been without the organ?
Think of most of the great studio stuff.. most had very prominent organ/keys

Those seventies live albums are certainly very hard to find (probably even if you do live in Japan too). I'm indeed still looking for sound files of a few 70's live recordingsbrutus wrote:A very elusive album. Re: Bob Bogle with a Violin Bass
I'm a little late to this thread, but the Les Paul Deluxe, Hofner bass, and SG Standard seemed to be the perferred live instruments once the Ventures put down the Mosrites in '68. Not sure if Don or Bob recorded with the SG or Hofner, but Gerry definitely used the mini humbucker equipped Les Paul Deluxe goldtop on most of the tracks he recorded with the Ventures (he was nice enough to answer this question, I always thought it was a Tele!). Gerry was also seen with a non reverse Gibson Firebird (with P90's) and a sunburst Les Paul Custom (with full sized humbuckers) from time to time.
I have the Live In Japan '71 LP on vinyl. I'm currently researching the best/user friendly turntable that allows vinyl to be converted to MP3's via USB. Once I can digitize the album, I'll upload it on youtube and post a link here.
Does anybody have the whole Live in Tokyo '68 record in any format?? I've heard Yesterday/Flint Hill, Ode To Billy Joe and a corny Don Wilson vocal (it's not a Ventures live album without one ) from the LP, but I'd love to hear the whole thing. Gerry KILLS on Yesterday and especially Flint Hill, the Japanese audiences must have freaked when they heard that picking.

Vibramute,
Before you buy anything, you may want to check out this conversion method on YouTube:

On my own YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Veenture1 you can listen to the result of a conversion from vinyl that I made, using the above method:

PS. check your Message Box (I sent you a PM re: "The Ventures In Tokyo '68")

Paul,
VERY helpful link, thank you! I have all the components to convert vinyl around my house so I'm going to give it a try with my computer this evening. You saved me some money, it's appreciated!
Also, hate to disappoint, but the live LP I have is actually '70, NOT the elusive '71. I just pulled it out for the first time in years, sorry to get everybody's hopes up! On a better note, I have the Trini Lopez show featuring the Ventures and I plan to convert and upload that as well
