Do any of you guys take your Mosrites to gigs? I've thought about it but to be honest Im very aprehensive about gigging with my Celebrity, Mosrites are great guitars, they sound great and they are well built, but it's just too hard to find a really nice original, and when you do they are really pricey, Id probebly have a heart attack if something happened to my Celebrity while playing out. When I got my Celbrity about 3 yrs ago I got a real good deal on it on ebay, I only paid $450.00 for it, now, I've seen them for triple that, and the Ventures modles, and other solid body Mosrites have REALLY sky-rocketed in price, I guess it's a double edge sword, it's good for those fortunate enough to have one (or more) of these fine guitars, but for those who would like to get one, well thats the other side of the sword, but one thing is for sure I think they're a really good investment. I think my next Mosrite will be the Maphis model, please forgive me Im just ramblin on, it's just that I've waited so long for a mosrite forum, or even just some guys to talk to about Mosrites, from now on I'll stick to the subject.

I don't see the point of owning a guitar if you're not going to gig with it, that's what they were built to do.

If I had an extremely valuable, mint condition vintage guitar, I might save it only for studio use. But luckily enough I don't

I know you guys are absolutly right, like Zak said,"thats what ther're meant for", and you guys have Mosrites that are far more valuble than my Celebrity. It's not a money thing, I have a few guitars that cost more than my Mosrite, and I gig with them with-out even thinking about it, thats why I bought them. But I guess it's more of a sentimental thing with me, after I sold my Celbrity in 1976, it took so long befor I found one exactally like the one I had, I guess my brother's right when he calls me a Mosrite hypocondriac. We're playing at a charity event next Sunday, maybe I'll bring her with me.

I definitely agree that guitars are made to play. I would have to say the only reason I wouldn't take my original '62 Strat 'that I purchased new' to a gig, would be where the venue is located. I've played in some rough places, and sometimes have to park some distance away and carry everything. Too great a chance for theft. Other than that, if there is plenty of room to avoid damage by banging the guitar into the other players, no problem.

I gig with all my guitars. I take two to any gig, recently my Mosrite VIII and my AVRI Jaguar. I don't like to own instruments that are too nice to take to gigs.

I bring my vintage Mosrite to gigs and a vintage amp, been doing it for years.
To get the tones I like you got to have the old stuff, simple as that. That said i do follow a few rules....
1. Carry the guitar in a crappy gig bag (made for bass) no need to advertise until it's time to play.
2. No amp covers for the vox I like to always be able to see the amp in the club
before and after playing you just can't pick a vintage vox head and walk out without someone seeing it if it is uncovered. (I do have covers when it gets back to the van)
3. D.W. (designated watcher) Somebody has to watch the gear, stand by it, just keep tabs on the stuff i.e. if everybody goes out for a smoke someone in the band has to stay to keep a eye on the stuff. usually the driver for the night will will be in charge of these things as they won't be drunk.
4. Don't load the van till it's time to go thieves know were the clubs are and smart enough know the big van with out of state plates has valuable stuff inside.
It may sound like a hassle but nobody wants their stuff stolen so it's not a problem

Words to live by.

One more thing: when we're on tour, one band member (we rotate) always sleeps in the van with the gear, a baseball bat, and brass knuckles.
It's saved our gear on a few occasions.
