"The Ventures Live in Japan '65" appreciation thread

Postby Chemo » Mon Jan 17, 2011 10:49 am

I had this already before, and have loved the album for a long time. It has a permanent spot in my all-time TOP2 live albums (the other one being Ramones' It's Alive). I ordered the cd version just in case - the cd versions of Ventures albums tend to get pricey second hand when sold out.

Just listened to the album again, and man, what a live album this is. Simply amazing playing, and without any unnecessary gimmickery. In every dictionary under the term "tight band playing", there should be a picture of The Ventures in Japan '65 album.

Anyone else love this album as much as I do?

It's a huge inspiration to me - great playing and great tone. I've often wished we could have an MC at our shows too.

There are usually a whole bunch of 'em on ebay but choose wisely when you're buying; prices at the moment range from $9,81 to $30.98

Wow! Now that's a good value for a dollar (or almost two).

Some of the prices of Ventures cds are really crazy. Anybody fancy a Hawaii Five-O/Swamp Rock 2in1 cd? Here's one for only 308,94 euros: http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/2626476 ... fer=search

Yes!! This is certainly in my "Top 5 live albums" list. Some songs are captured on video too!
Nokie and the guys are just in top shape here. One of the sharpest performances I've seen.

i must admit this album had me like no others.
I just turned 30 this year, it all started with a Guitarist magazine, surf issue, with a beautiful Fender Jaguar on it, I had to have it. Once I did a couple of months later, I had to play some nice vintage stuff on it, somehow at work I heard the Ventures (for the first time) and loved how I knew these songs but it was all instruments, no attention hungry singers telling us something we don't care about...So from then on it was the Ventures playlist on youtube all day until I got to the Live in Japan 65 album.

At this point I wasn't very familiar with the songs, but that all changed. That album has been on my ipod since November 2011, and has been played close to every day. Some days, I can't listen to anything else, and just resort to listening to Live in Japan 65 for the third time that day.

It's the tone, so sharp and biting, it's that theyr'e so tight (nokie doesn't make one mistake the whole time), it's the drumming (so fast, ahead of the beat)...simply amazing and I have never met anyone in person who knows the ventures or likes them.....but everyone I played Besame Mucho or House of the Rising Sun or some song they would know say they sound 'cool'

Well. i'm a fan of all kinds of music, I loved Metallica, like the Birthday Party, but love the Ventures.
And yes, my most favorite album, but It's Alive is also top 3.

I just love Live in Japan 65!!!!! It's the only music that can make me dance!
