Visiting california in may

Postby babiuk » Sun Jan 09, 2011 7:05 am

Hi,
I´m marrying in April the 30th and visiting california in May (from 3 to 16).
My girlfriend and me are lovers of the 50s and 60s california styles in music, TV series and films, so we are making a list of stuff to visit, something like recording studios, guitar places, venues, locations from films and series, and so on... everything from that era. It´s a little freak honeymoon, yes, but we are so, hehe...
I would like you to help us in increasing that list. Here in the forum I´m sure a lot of members could add something about.
For example, mosrite places like factories, shops or something related to visit? Or any info about bands from this era in the area of LA, SF, San Diego or San Jose?
Any gig related to 50s/60s style bands for this date?

We are planning to do the SF-LA way by car, not by plane, so we can do several stops in the preferred places. Any advice in this route?

I´d thank you infinite any help you could give me.

Thanks a million in advance and regards from Spain

There's often a Battle of the Surf Bands in SF around that time, maybe bump this post as the time comes closer and I'll try to get the details.

Not sure if your interest covers the tiki/exotica territory, but there are some great tiki bars in the SF area - the Tonga Room in San Francisco and Forbidden Island in Alameda (my home town watering hole!)

MBP doesn't currently have gigs scheduled in that window, but if we do, I'll post here.
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

What? Couldn't tell the logo is a link? So click here, what's the hold up? http://www.meshuggabeachparty.com

Thanks, guys, for the info. The battle of surf bands looks great, I hope the dates are OK. I´ll keep an eye om this.
And yes, of course, tiki rules! We´ll go to the bars, and maybe we can meet the MBP, I hope so.
