Re: The Ventures-The Cruel Sea
It struck me as I was watching this, and looking at the string of "Christmas" lights in the back, how much the focus was on the music. In today's culture, the attention is drawn by pyrotechnics, laser shows, theatrics - and a lot of the musicianship is ignored in favor of atmosphere. There are tons of good players out there - it's a shame most of their playing is overshadowed by the "show".
Sooo glad that I grew up listening to, and appreciating the music, and the musicians ...

I for one have never seen a group set up that way bass & drums so far apart. Was this stage setup so they could mic the instruments and have better seperation?

I can truthfully say that some of the best players I've ever heard were busking on the street and I think it's unfair that of so many of today's 'stars' who hide behind extravagant shows or get a truckload of dancers to do all the work get all the glory.
I guess it often comes down to promotion and marketing.

Good call John. I never noticed that before, but it's a good question. Also take note on where they set the mics in front of the amps......
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Monitors were virtually unheard of in the 60's. Big amps played loud was the hot setup. I don't think monitors came into existence until the 70's.
