In 1984 while I and my wife were living in North Hollywood (The Great San Fernando Valley, L.A.) we became involved with the movie "ANOTHER STATE OF MIND" which features Social Distortion. If you haven't already, check it out on VHS or DVD or some segments at youtube. We were involved only in the publicity stage so my wife and I put up film posters all over the Valley. Even though I wasn't into the music or the type of groups represented in the film, I found it quite enjoyable anyway.

No posters but we still have a couple of punk-style t-shirts with the film's graphic. We were hip when hip was in!

Went to see them play earlier this year in the netherlands. Man it was great! Saw them a couple of years back on a large festival here but the small venue show was even better.

It seemed to me that they were playing everyting just a fraction slower than on the live on the roxy album or some bootlegs I have but some songs sound even better that way.

And I sure do love the version of prison bound with the piano on it.

The movie "another state of mind" is a cool one to watch. Just to see hoe poorly evertything was aranged and to give you an inside in the early years of mike and social D.

My wife just asked me what I was doing discussing "ANOTHER STATE OF MIND" and I told her that I had mentioned here our connection with the film. She reminded me that she was involved with the distribution to cable and helped promote the theatrical distribution and she got her boss to invest $30,000, and it played on the USA Network, still active. We had faith in the movie making it big and, unfortunately, even though it got good reviews it became, instead, an underground favorite.

The $30,000 was to make 35mm theatrical prints from a 16mm master and other expenses. We were not part of the theatrical end of the distribution deal, we don't know if any of the investment money was recouped.

There's quite a bit of info on the film on the web but our part (my wife and her boss, really) is not mentioned.
