Just wondering how many of you still by vinyl by newer artists as opposed to used vinyl.

sometimes. mainly of alternative bands, punk, ska and stuff like that. Secondhand vinyl I buy a lot.

I used to buy vinyl…some of my favorite bands were only available on vinyl. About a year ago I told my wife that I was going to sell my vinyl. She mentioned that she’d never seen me play any of them in the 5 years we had been married I didn’t even realize they were just sitting there that long. I think the invention of tiny/easy-to-use mp3 players ended my vinyl days.

I confess that I haven't bought any vinyl records since the introduction of the compact disc but lately I have acquired a renewed appreciation for (playing) the vinyl records that I still have left after selling a whole pile of 'em a few years ago. I find analog sound waves 'warmer sounding' than digital but that may be wishful thinking. Compact discs are handy and over time I have had a lot of fun making my own compilations on CD-R's etc.

What you call "warmer sounding" is just limited response because of the methods used to produce vinyl. IOW, digital contains more of the actual notes than vinyl could hold.

The last vinyl record I bought was Walk Don't Run a couple of years ago on ebay. The seller was in my town, so I picked it up in person. It is in good shape and I still listen to it once in a while.

last record I'd buy was a greatest hits record of the trashmen on blue vinyl. A friend of mine was selling it.

I have a love for music on vinyl so I have collected some 7"and 12"stuff over de last couple of years.

Nothing can touch vinyl. The problem is that most of the artists I want don't press records.
If you already own the analog equipment it is an experience not to be missed. If your passing it thru a A/D amp forget the hassle (it won't help).

The mp3s people love so much now days are no better than AM radio (after a download compression - and the process is lossy -bits lost don't come back-)

CDs are no better than FM radio, so a bit better.

If you want the real sound its a record . However nothing degrades faster than a record (given a couple friends and a six pack) so the first thing I do is make a digital back up at 196k. I used to use tape but you can't buy 1/4 reel tape anymore.

Interesting comparisons Rich...a bit shocking to learn about permanment loss of bits on mp3's though

By definition all recording is lossy. You just prefer one loss over another.
