Surf Punk?

Postby oipunkguy » Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:45 am

Here's one of my favorite punk bands from the 80's. I love their version of Pipeline ;)

hi Aaron, this is an interesting version of Pipeline, for sure.....lol.....I think that punk music is a bit too hurried and frantic for me, lol...must be my old age.. ;)
But I know lots of people do like it.....everyone has their own tastes....but I find it interesting that people from all genres of music pay tribute to that great song....from Gary Hoey, to this band, SRV....the song has definitely endured the test of time, ay?
thanks for posting it.....

Roger

There are many interesting versions of Pipeline indeed but the original by The Chantays is still the one I like best...(sorry Ventures) ;)

The mood of the original Chantays version is unmatchable. It's cool that bands like Agent Orange play some surf covers; it's definitely turned some people I know on to the source material. Agent Orange does have further surf music cred; Dusty Watson, drummer since 1995, is also in surf trio Slacktone.

Here's another punk cover of a surf classic, the Pixies playing Cecilia Ann by the Surftones.

Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

You must mean The Trashmen! The Ramones covered "Surfin Bird", as did the Cramps and many others. Pipeline however, as recorded by The Chantays, falls under the category of PERFECT RECORDINGS in my book.
