OK, they are an American institution, they are in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, they have been touring nonstop since their inception. So where are their albums in the CD format? The only way you can get their 60's studio albums is as imports and for $50 a pop and the 2 for 1 CD's from One Way Records are going for close to $70. Why has there not been a major re-issue campaign? Seems like a money maker to me.
I'm not expecting definitive answers but it is puzzling for an American band that had a lot of hits one has to go the import route to get their recordings.
I have vinyl releases on Dolton but they are becoming harder and harder to find in good condition.

That is a very good question. Some of their classic 60's albums are available on cd over here in Finland for less than 20 euros, but not too many of them. I'm still missing a couple of them.
...then again, when you find one, it's even more rewarding. But yes, it is surprising how their albums are not that available. I can imagine they would sell fine in iTunes Store too.
This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!

There is a handful available in the US. I have a few that didn't cost that much. Keep watching ebay and they'll pop up from time to time at a deal.

Re: The Ventures
I think that most Ventures fans will probably have all the 'standard' stuff by now.
The only bummer is that many of their live performances during the seventies are simply unavailable at this time.
I'm still looking for a bunch of items, one or two I have not found on cd…

Been there, done that. Its quite a lot of "best of" collections. I am looking for the albums put out by Dalton in the 60's. All of the Japanese stuff is pretty much re-recorded stuff.

Re: The Ventures
I guess you're right -even on their website it's a lot of best of & assorted collections.
I guess all you can do is take the old Dolton vinyl albums and burn them to cd. Works if you've got a really clean record.

Re: The Ventures
Actually, the tapes are still around and owned by EMI. But unlike the Beatles or the Shadows, Ventures recording sessions were cataloged in a haphazard fashion. Not to mention that the same song can be found under different titles. When the "Ventures From The Vaults" series were released, they used the logs from the Dalton sessions and the original tapes for stuff that Don Wilson and Bob Bogel didn't know existed.
They are there I just can not figure why EMI/Captiol did not take advantage of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction to re-issue the catalog, or at least launching it with a box set. Maybe a Nokie era one, then a Gerry McGee era one.
Heck, I think the Shadows have a least four box sets.
