What to do with that beer bottle while you're playing? Well, use it to play with.

That towel trick is great for the last song of the night. You can
wipe down the neck & strings while you're playing. I love efficiency.

Now that was really cool! I was freaky out at first because he was getting beer on the guitar. Thanks for posting that!

If there was anyone who could understand a guitar fretboard and what a huming bean  can do with it (…and then some), it has to be Danny Gatton. Period.

First time I see this most entertaining video, saying all that I’m fumbling out of my keypad now…

Thank you dubtrub!

The guy was an absolute savant, when it came to playing. He did that on one of the Austin City Limits shows - amazing stuff. A real tragedy - playing came too easily to him - needed something else to challenge him.

Insert here dramatic exhalation of amazement.

Dubtrub, thank you for posting this. 'Remember having purchased "Cruisin' Deuces" the week before the maestro's passage to the next realm, and marveling at the virtuosity on Harlem Nocturne and Mystery train....

About 10 years ago I was in this record shop in Amsterdam and the salesman knowing I was a Ventures fan, introduced me to the guitar sound of a Danny Gatton, hitherto unknown to me!

Without hesitation I bought the double cd "Hot Rod Guitar - The Danny Gatton Anthology" and it was a jaw dropping experience for me listening for the first time to this over-talented guitarist.

Excellent liner notes in the 30 page(!) booklet that came with it. Highly recommendable: catalogue number: RHINO Records R2 75691 (1999 compilation)

My advice is get everything by Danny that you can lay your hands on. I have at least 16 CDs by him and there isn't a bad one in the bunch.

Hey, Nokie--

You wrote (re: Danny Gatton):

Do you have the "Reaction" album that he did with Johnny Seaton back in 1990 (I think)?

I have a great autographed (by both Danny and Johnny) photo of them practicing at Danny's house for that session. I sometimes jam on guitar and bass with Johnny nowadays but I won't play an electric guitar!!!
