Postby rynaro » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:32 pm

Hey guys i was browsing [drooling] over a few mosrites on tyms website...
http://www.tymguitars.com.au/mymosrites_Ramones_model.htm
did these ever go into production?
how many of these are around?
what is the story behind these?
from my understanding semie was a gospel/country kinda guy and would probably not have known about johnny and the ramones?? maybe??

That was my guitar. I bought it at a pawn shop in Tokyo and Tim ended up talking me out of it. If I remember correctly it was serial number 3, and several months back Tim bought what I believe is serial number 1 in white with a black guard, also from Japan. So, there are at least three of 'em, probably more like half a dozen. I think zarfnober is the resident expert on these things. And I think it's obvious from Semie's spelling on "The Ramone's" logo that he didn't have a clue.

To my knowledge and according to Loretta, Semie built around a dozen of these. Johnny's was serial number JR01, according to Loretta. I saw pictures from when the band played somewhere in north carolina, where Semie presented him with the guitar. He took some photos with the band, wearing a leather jacket they gave him. Semies nephew was also there, the one in the "history comes alive" brochures, he's holding a Mosrite 88. Including Johnnys and CJ's, I know of 10 of them. 2 of them, which include CJ's, are basses. And they are all different! Some carved, some flat, different pickguards, etc. Hope this helps,

BTW, Semie was very aware of the band, he got lots of calls to build the guitar Johnny actually played, a Ventures II. He gave Johnny the custom guitar, at a time when he probably could not afford to give stuff away!

Well, Several of his guitars are missing. Were you referring to his custom one you linked a picture to or his first one (Or even another one altogether?)
1966 Ventures II (German Carved, B670.)
1970s "Not a Blues Bender" Bodies: 2.
